"Another
tiny, but unforgettable cake business, known
as Confetti Cakes, can be found on the upper
west side of Manhattan. Elisa Strauss, creator
of Confetti Cakes, studied at Vassar and is
also a graduate of The School of the Art Institute
of Chicago. While working as a designer at
Polo Ralph Lauren, Elisa was asked to design
a cake for Ralph Lauren in the shape of his
favorite sports car, a Bugatti. Her gesture
to her boss got her confectionary talents
noticed and Elisa has traded in her water
colors and sketch pads for butter cream and
cake batter to create memorable and delicious
delights which define the art of confectionary
decor."
"When discussing her cakes, Strauss says
'there is a huge disparity between people
who want a really traditional cake and people
who want a more contemporary cake.' Strauss
adds, 'I have one couple that's getting married
on the Brooklyn Bridge and the top of their
cake is the New York City skyline with the
Brooklyn Bridge.'" |
